David W. Sodano, 68, of Lowell MA, died peacefully September 17, 2022 at High Pointe House, a hospice facility in Haverhill MA, after two months of in-home hospice care.
Born in Brookline MA on July 6, 1954, he was the son of the late Walter H. and Virginia V. (Koski) Sodano, and grew up in Manchester CT.
After graduating from Earlham College in 1977 with a B.A. in English literature, he pursued organ performance, choral conducting and other studies in music at The Juilliard School, Boston Conservatory, University of Connecticut, and Westminster Choir College, receiving a Master of Music degree in organ performance from New England Conservatory of Music in 1987.
He was the director of music and choir director for several churches in eastern Massachusetts, culminating in 26 years of service to the First United Baptist Church in Lowell. He was a member of the American Guild of Organists, and performed in concerts throughout his career.
In addition to his professional pursuits, David was a voracious reader; loved his dogs and cats; had an encyclopedic knowledge of films; enjoyed travel, puns and Chinese food; followed sports avidly; and cherished opportunities to get together with friends and family.
David is survived by his sister Nancy Sodano and her husband James Saum Jr. of Needham, lifelong friends, and a large extended family.
